Kripesh Adhikari
Hydrology & Meteorology · Glacio-hydrology · Cryosphere
Profile
Kripesh Adhikari is a hydrologist and meteorologist working across hydrology, glacio-hydrological modelling, climate change, the cryosphere and water resources assessment.
His master's research examined glacier-hydrology interactions and future hydro-climatic projections in the Budhigandaki river basin, and he works in the J2000 and SWAT+ modelling frameworks alongside GIS and remote sensing.
In the field he has run hydro-meteorological data collection, hydrometric survey, streamflow measurement, water quality sampling and bathymetric survey, and installed and maintained hydrological monitoring instruments.
His assignments include hydrological and sediment studies with rating-curve development for hydropower projects, intensive flow measurement and cross-section survey for provincial hydrology offices, and raingauge inter-comparison and calibration for the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
On the climate side he worked on the national climate change study update, analysing precipitation and temperature trends and extremes from 1971 to 2024, assessing the 1991-2020 climate normal, and building gridded climate datasets and maps. His cryosphere fieldwork includes a Changri-Nup glacier expedition in the Everest region and permafrost monitoring at Thorong La Pass.
