Adviser · Water Resources, Hydrology & River Basin Management
Profile
Bhesh Raj Thapa is a water resources engineer, hydrologist and river basin management specialist advising the firm on hydrology, water resources planning, irrigation development, flood risk, watershed management, groundwater and climate-resilient water resources management.
He has worked as team leader, hydrologist, water resources expert, irrigation engineer, flood and inundation risk assessment expert, flood modelling expert and project coordinator across government, donor-funded, research and consulting assignments in Nepal.
His assignments span the Koshi, Karnali, West Rapti, Babai, Seti, Bagmati, Madi and Dang river systems, and irrigation and watershed projects in several regions — district irrigation master plans, diversion multipurpose pre-feasibility studies, river morphology and flood inundation studies, hydrological station survey, Mean Sea Level benchmark establishment, groundwater recharge studies, and river training and watershed management planning.
He has specialised experience in flood forecasting and early warning: telemetric system assessment and design, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, flood hazard mapping, flood risk databases and the development of community-based early warning mechanisms.
His research at the University of Yamanashi covered hydrological and groundwater modelling, water security assessment, discharge measurement and river basin environmental research.
