Profile
Rajan Babu Shrestha is a civil engineer and assistant hydrologist with more than fifteen years on hydrological investigation, discharge measurement, river cross-section survey, sediment monitoring, hydrometric station installation and hydropower study.
His measurement work covers low, medium and high flow discharge by tracer and dilution and other field methods, installation and operation of manual and automatic gauging stations, rating curve development, sediment sampling and laboratory analysis, and water quality assessment.
He has contributed to Glacial Lake Outburst Flood risk mitigation and early warning, including the early warning system design for Tsho Rolpa glacial lake — HEC-RAS 1D and 2D dam-breach modelling support, flood arrival time assessment, cross-section survey, station site investigation, specifications, drawings, cost estimates, tender documentation and operation and maintenance planning.
Alongside that he works on hydropower feasibility and DPR preparation, micro-hydropower development, topographical and cross-section survey, sediment investigation and civil works supervision, on schemes from small micro-hydro up to major storage projects. His assignments span mountainous and river basin environments across Nepal, with construction supervision experience in Laos.
