Nepal has more water than it has reliable information about water. Gauges are sparse, records are broken, and the basins under most development pressure are often the ones with the least data. Assessment work here is therefore as much about building a defensible record as about analysing one.

e2services works across that whole chain — field survey, instrumentation, data collection, analysis, and the development planning that follows. For the Water Resources Research and Development Centre we installed a smart groundwater monitoring system across six districts to establish empirical relations between rainfall and groundwater level, the kind of long-horizon observation programme that changes what a province knows about its own aquifers.

For the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology we established mean sea level benchmarks across fifteen hydrological stations in the Karnali and Bheri basins, and carried out bathymetric and topographic survey of Rara Lake. Benchmark and bathymetric work is unglamorous and foundational: every water level record downstream of it inherits its accuracy.

The assessment side combines that field data with agro-socio-economic study, so that identified developments are matched to actual demand and the people who would use them, rather than to hydrological potential alone.

How the work runs

    Data inventory and gap analysis

    Existing gauge, rainfall and groundwater records assembled and screened for gaps, shifts and quality before anything is analysed.

    Field survey and instrumentation

    Benchmarks established, sections surveyed, and monitoring instrumentation installed where the record needs extending rather than interpreting.

    Hydrological analysis

    Flow, rainfall and groundwater analysis, including regionalisation for ungauged locations and rainfall-response relationships.

    Agro-socio-economic assessment

    Command area, cropping pattern and household survey work that establishes real demand alongside physical availability.

    Development identification and prioritisation

    Candidate developments identified, screened and ranked so that programming decisions rest on comparable evidence.

Common questions

Can you work in basins with little or no gauge data?

That is the normal case in Nepal. We combine regionalisation methods with our own field measurement and, where the assignment supports it, install monitoring instrumentation so the record improves rather than staying assumed.

Do you install and maintain monitoring equipment?

Yes. We installed a smart groundwater monitoring system across Sindhuli, Kaski, Kavre, Dhading, Makwanpur and Sindhupalchowk for the Water Resources Research and Development Centre, including recommendations for long-term operation.

How accurate is your bathymetric survey work?

We carried out bathymetric and topographic survey of Rara Lake for the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, tied to established benchmarks. Accuracy is set by the control network, which is why we establish it ourselves rather than inheriting it.
