Mean Sea Level Benchmarks — Karnali & Bheri Basins

Every water level record in a basin inherits the accuracy of the benchmark it is referenced to. Where those benchmarks are missing, disturbed or referenced to inconsistent datums, decades of hydrological data become difficult to compare between stations and impossible to combine into a basin picture.

e2services established mean sea level benchmarks at fifteen hydrological stations across the Karnali and Bheri river basins for the Office of Hydrology and Meteorology, bringing the network onto a consistent vertical datum.

The work is precise levelling over long distances in difficult terrain, with the redundancy and closure checks that make each benchmark defensible rather than merely placed. Fifteen stations across two major basins is a substantial field campaign under Nepali access conditions.

It is also foundational rather than headline work. Nothing about it is visible in the way a bridge or a canal is, and everything measured at those stations from now on depends on it.
