Detail Survey, Design & Cost Estimate — Piluwakhola Lift Irrigation Project (1,350 ha)

At 1,350 hectares, Piluwakhola is a substantial lift scheme, and lift schemes carry a distinctive risk: they can be hydraulically sound and operationally unaffordable. Pumping head, energy cost and the recurrent burden on the users' committee decide whether the command area is actually irrigated in ten years' time.

The assignment covered detailed survey of the command area and lift alignment, system design, and cost estimate — with energy and O&M cost treated as design constraints rather than as an appendix.

Delivered for the Community Irrigation Project, the design gave the scheme a buildable and costed basis.
