Assignment overview
Nineteen kilometres of the Kanti Rajmarga, from chainage 55+900 to 74+890, had become an ongoing liability — slope instability recurring on a section the Department of Roads had to keep open regardless.
e2services carried out geotechnical investigation and detailed design of remedial measures for the unstable and vulnerable roadside, working for the Department's Geo-Environment and Social Unit.
The engineering question on a section like this is not whether the slope is unstable but why, and by what mechanism. A rotational failure, a debris flow channel and a rockfall source each demand a different remedy, and treating them alike is how remedial budgets get spent twice. Investigation was therefore directed at identifying and classifying the actual processes before design began.
The output was buildable remedial design with quantities — a specific intervention for a specific stretch of highway, rather than a hazard map recommending further study.
